IJF and The Invaders bring judo to Minecraft and let gamers win the gold medal in Paris
Winning gold in Paris. Athletes from all over the world could think of nothing else recently. A medal around your neck, the Seine at your feet and the Eiffel Tower in the background. That is the dream. Thanks to the International Judo Federation and The Invaders, Minecraft players can now realise this dream in 'Journey to the Great Shiai'.
Journey to the Great Shiai is a new Minecraft world in which the player goes on an unforgettable journey. An adventurous quest full of challenges, puzzles AND judo. Indeed, for the first time in Minecraft history, players can step onto the mat to take the fight to the ground and topple their opponent. Using a special card-based combat system, you will battle it out and grab gold in Paris.
A unique Minecraft world starring judo
The road to this final battle takes the player past a mysterious island full of challenges and puzzles. Along the way, they learn about the core values of judo and collect the cards needed to shine in Paris. The French capital is recreated in detail and free to explore, with the judo station for the grand final at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
Journey to the Great Shiai pushes the boundaries of what is possible within Minecraft. Both the card combat system and the judo animations were developed specifically for the IJF and have never before been seen in the game. This, combined with a rich world full of puzzles and platforming challenges, makes Journey to the Great Shiai a must-play for all Minecraft and judo enthusiasts.
Journey to the Great Shiai is now playable via schools.ijf.org/judocraft.
Minecraft as an educational tool
Journey to the Great Shiai is the third Minecraft world of the IJF and The Invaders. For the IJF, it is important that children learn the values of judo. This is because these values help them grow into balanced individuals both in sport and in life. The Invaders is helping the IJF use Minecraft to convey these valuable lessons to children in a fun and engaging way.
