Every gamer has shouted out this request many times. Mostly in-game, because when it comes to asking for support in real life, gamers often stay quiet.
This is a major problem as more and more young people struggle with mental health issues. Support and accessible professional help are essential to battle this worrying development. In America 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides this vital service and The Invaders helped them to make sure that gamers know where to ask for support IRL.
Paging Dr K.
To get this message out, 988 launched a new gaming campaign developed by The Invaders in collaboration with AFK. In this campaign we set out to break the taboo and make mental health a topic of discussion among gamers.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, we joined the biggest streamer who brings gaming and mental health together: Dr K. Also known as the Healthy Gamer GG. During 988 sponsored streams he discussed mental health with the biggest American streamers and had an honest talk on this topic. Together they showed that support is vital when struggling with mental health issues, and how 988 provides this well-needed service.
Going live with Ludwig and Mizkif
We kicked off this campaign with one of the biggest American streamers of the moment: Ludwig. With over 17.800 concurrent viewers and a chat full of beautiful and overwhelming reactions, this stream helped 988 to present itself within the community. This resulted in a traffic spike testing the limits of the 988 websiteβs servers. You can rewatch the full stream here:
This succes was then repeated with another well-know streamer: Mizkif.
